Youth Entrepreneurship Program (YEP) is an initiative of SEED foundation to strategically address growing youth unemployment. The program is aimed at making participants self-employed and employers instead of job seekers. Participants are trained in skills and entrepreneurship, those who excel in the program are given seed capital and other necessary  support to setup their own small businesses.

The first phase of the program involves setting up 10 training centers in 10 different communities. Each training center comprises of 10 participants.

The program will run in communities in Abuja suburbs. This location is chosen for a strategic reason, the Abuja suburbs have a great number of youths who have left their communities in search of non-existent white collar jobs in Abuja. Abuja on the other hand lacks craftsmen whose services are needed by the working class people. There is hence a ready market for products and services of skilled craftsmen and women.

We shall deploy a combination of physical interaction and digital technologies to ensure efficient and effective delivery and monitoring of this program.

The program comprises basically 3 components;

Literacy training (including basic computer literacy).
Skill acquisition training.
Entrepreneurial training.

LITERACY TRAINING – This involves training on communication skills and basic computer skills especially those that will aid income generating activities. We also employ digital technology using mobile phones to enhance engagement and foster efficiency of our training program. The literacy training will last for 3 months.

SKILL ACQUISATION – This involves training each participant in an area of skill such as;

1.    Improved farming techniques and practices

2.    Food processing and packaging.

3.    Fish farming and processing

4.    Fashion Designing

5.    Soap Making

6.    Graphic design and Website development

7.    Hair dressing and barbing.

The skill acquisition is handled using experienced skilled men and women in the communities under guidance of our core team. We also use digital means to reinforce and sharpen skill acquisition. Our focus is to give participants skills that are relevant in their communities and also prepare them to be able to function in the emerging global economy. The skill acquisition training is for 5 months.

ENTREPRENEURIAL TRAINING – This focuses on developing participant’s capacity to start and run their own small businesses with vision, creativity and enthusiasm.  This is for 3 months and runs concurrently with the later part of skill acquisition in the last three months of the program. We also use combination of physical contact and digital means to impact the participants.
